Readings: Population, Oil Inventories, Chinese Investment Opportunties

  • China’s population to peak at 1.4 billion near 2026, while India to become the worlds most populous nation 2025. US Census Bureau Report This has long terms investment implications, but we have to remember that it is the movement of people from below the poverty line into the middle class, that is a key driver of  their economic growth, and both those countries should have lot’s of room to improve those ratios for many decades.
  • Gregor’s latest blog post makes the case that oil inventories which have been above average for a while are finally starting to roll over.  To get at these figures requires careful reading of the monthly IEA reports.  This should be bullish for oil prices in 2010.
  • The Tischendorf Letter Blog highlights some prospective investment ideas benefiting from technical momentum and fundamentals in Chinese markets.  Of particular interest are the investments focused on Chinese agriculture and food trends, which tie into fundamental, long term, global food demand side pressures created by increased protein intakes of populations in the emerging markets like China and India.
